Hiding out in the Ozarks is a gorgeous natural pool called Gunner Pool, and it has its very own recreation area complete with cool, clear creeks and absolutely gorgeous scenery. Gunner Pool Recreation Area was originally called Camp Hedges. From 1933 to 1942 this was a base camp for some 2,200 enrollees in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). From here they worked on many projects within the Sylamore National Forest. The Gunner Pool Recreation Area offers a campground stretching along the scenic North Sylamore Creek. Campsites are shady and private, but have no electrical or water hook-ups. This recreation area is located within the Sylamore Wildlife Management Area.
